Starlight Parade is a part of the Rose Festival in Portland since this festival was started. In 1907 fire department of Portland started a parade at night under candles in the street of Yamhill. In the next year the parade was conducted under the torches and electric lights in the night which was maintained by around 20 floats to celebrate “The Spirit of the West.”
These days the parade is famously known as “Starlight Parade” and in the Rose Festival it has become the most popular part of the event. And around 300,000 people come every year to watch this festival especially for the “Starlight Parade” which included the march of sparkling floats.
Starlight Parade has become very popular and is now the part of some other local festivals, local charity shows and also in some other festivals of the neighbor cities. This Parade has not the full support from local business communities and from some other sponsors as well. It is really a good fun to watch.
Starlight Parade has won the tile in America for the “Cleanest Parade” and it is just because of the efforts of their sponsors, volunteers and General Electric Portland. News Channel 8 of KGW Northwest always live telecast this parade from 9 to 11 pm.
The spectators brings their blankets, chair or some of them watch it while standing in the street and sets themselves on their position before the start of “Starlight Parade.” As then sun goes down, the fun begins and children rushed to the playground to play football or chalking on the walls to make some art before parade.
