At a Texas Military post an Army Psychiatrist Major Malik Nadal Hasan opened fires and shot dead 12. At least 31 were reported injured at Fort Hood base. 39-year-old Malik Nadal Hasan a Muslim convert, was reportedly enraged over Iraq and Afghanistan invasion by the U.S. and its allies.

According to the ABC news On Thursday November 5, 2009 at one of the largest United States Army bases called Fort Hood military post Texas (a Soldier Readiness Facility, a gunman opened fires on scattered civilians and soldiers. As a result of an unalarmed attack, 12 persons died on the spot whereas at least 31 others ended up injured severely.

The shooter has been identified as a Major Malik Nadal Hasan, an Army official and a psychiatrist who was deputed at Fort Hood to counsel the Army troops that returned after serving various duties at different fields. By far the only reason for his attack seems that the authorities had plans of his deployment to Iraq by the end month, whereas Nadal Hasan was reportedly furious and enraged already over the invasion of U.S. and its allies’ troops in Iraq as well as Afghanistan.

According to the initial reports it was assumed that Nadal Hasan had also died during the shooting spree but late night, it was confirmed by an Army official Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone during a news conference that he was only wounded and now in the custody. However, no updates were available on shooter’s condition lately. It has also been reported that there were two more suspects but they were soon released.

Following the incident there was a statement issued by Hasan Nadal’s cousin named Nader Hasan on Thursday that reads: “the family is shocked by the awful events that occurred at Fort Hood this morning and that we are with the victims’ families in their grief.” The statement further revealed that “Nadal, an American citizen was an Arlington Virginia born and our whole family loves America.” “Today’s tragedy has saddened us all,” Nader continued to state.
