At Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Eclipse Awards, the Horse of the Year award goes to Rachel Alexandra on Monday. The winner of Breeders’ Cup Classic filly Zenyatta stood second in the polls (130 – 99) despite insurmountable lead for the award.

Year-end honor makes Jess Jackson more than excited and happy since his filly Rachel Alexandra brings home Preakness victory by achieving the highest 130 votes against Jerry Moss’s Zenyatta that grabbed 99 votes. Jess Jackson said both the fillies had an equal chance of winning.

However, the poll results seem to have left some doubts and ambiguity in the mind of Jerry Moss since he made a subsequent statement suggesting there was some ‘proxy’ involved in the polls. ‘On the racetracks, Zenyatta is unbeatable and perfect’ Jerry continued to state and what he meant was; she’s unbeatable on the polls too.

Jerry further stated that when the ‘ladies’ meet at the racetrack in future, only then it would be decided who among the two deserved to be considered ‘the best’ and who’s the superstar. Since both the fillies have registered victories against ‘boys,’ the voters seemingly cast their votes and decided the winner considering their track record.

Following a pretty tight competition at Eclipse Awards over the years, Jerry Moss and his wife Ann are very keen to watch Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra running against each other for the first time. The couple announced so in a subsequent statement on Saturday.

It was in 1924 when the last filly won the Preakness so exactly after 85 years, Rachel Alexandra eventually becomes first filly to defeat older horses in the Triple Crown’s middle leg Preakness and Woodward too.

Zenyatta however, grabbed the top older she horse Eclipse Award being six-year-old while Rachel that topped the table with 130 votes is three-year-old. The top trainer award went to Steve Asmussen, Alexandra’s trainer that has number of victories over a year.
