Three army helicopter crashes claim lives of 14 Americans in Afghanistan in one day. 26th October 2009 proved the deadliest day for American soldiers over the years in war stricken Afghanistan. Two choppers bumped while another crashed down.
In two various incidents in the war-stricken region of Afghanistan, the American soldiers faced the heaviest loss of men and material since the year 2005 (June 28) whereby in a shot down MH-47 Chinook helicopter, as many as 16 troops from United States aboard, were killed.
In today’s incidents overall 14 American troops faced fatal results while several were injured including civilians. First incident occurred in the area of Badghis province in northwestern Afghanistan and Taliban’s claim of shooting it down is not confirmed though. The crash claimed 7 U.S. service members and three numbers U.S. civilians’ lives while 14 U.S. service members and 1 civilian alongside 11 Afghans, received severe injuries. This particular chopper was on a mission to monitor anti-drug operation in the province. The service members that died belonged to Special Operations forces.
In southern Afghanistan, 4 other U.S. service members also lost their lives this morning while two army helicopters accidentally collided and turned into ashes. The military claims that there was not any element of doubt involved in today’s incident whether any of the choppers were shot by insurgent forces.
There is some ambiguity about the Taliban claim of shooting down a helicopter in the same are wherein ten of the soldiers died this morning neither it could be confirmed yet whether Taliban referred to the same incident.
