It is the cell phone footage that shown the best about fatal beating of an honor student Derrion Albert. The student of Fenger High School, 16-year-old Derrion Albert was brutally killed with wooden planks on Sept. 24, 2009 in a street gang war.
19-year-old Silvonus Shannon, 16-year-old Eric Carson, 18-year-old Eugene Riley and 18-year-old Eugene Bailey, were the four suspects arrested to be responsible for the murder of Derrion Albert. The arrest of these four prime suspects was made possible by the stomach churning footage of brutal murder of Derrion Albert that was posted all over the Internet, as well as covered live on TV a number of times.
The suspects were charged with first-degree murder of Derrion Albert. The video of Derrion Albert’s death that shows fatal beating by a group of wild youths, proved very painful for the family of Derrion. Joshua Walker who is the grandfather of Derrion Albert denied to view the video. He said, “I was not there to save my grandson, so will never see the video.”
The mother of one of the Derrion’s murderers denied to watch the video as well. However, she supported her son Silvonus Shannon saying, “He is not the one being estimated by the authorities, as a matter of fact, he was there to save Derrion Albert not to kill him.”
The footage was not only mind disturbing, but on the other hand, proved to be a lesson for the rest of students. It also proved to be a boon for the officials investigating the gruesome murder of Derrion Albert.
