Degos disease alternately known as “malignant atrophic papulosis” is the disease named for Robert Degos. It’s a disease of veins and arteries in which size of veins and arteries become smaller and due to blockage of the flow of the blood, pressure of blood becomes faster. When this disease affects any person, the veins and arteries begin to swell. The red spots begin to occur on the skin.
There are evidences that this disease can also affect the other parts of the body like central nervous system, eyes and guts etc. The symptoms of this disease can be found from the skin mainly.
This disease can be dangerous for the patient if it is not treated in time. In this disease arteries and veins start to close down so, if it is not diagnosed properly, it is expected that blood circulation may slower down day by day and finally results would be fatal for the patient. However, there are limited patients of this disease which are reported till now worldwide. The number of patients of this disease as reported in the literature of medicine is from 50 to 200.
Treatment of this disease is not highly efficient till now. It is limited and not available every where. But still research is being done for the treatment of this disease and it is expected that in near future, the treatment of this disease will be commonly available. Mainly the drugs which are suggested for the patients of this disease include “Antiplatelet drugs or anticoagulants or immunosuppressants.”
This disease is common in young as well as in old age group people. It is not found yet the disease of a specific age group people. Similarly, there are some rumors about this disease that it does not affect the soles of feet. There is no evidence like this.
