For the past few hours, news surfaced about the death of an Indian film actor known as Cochin Haneefa. Many speculated that he wasn’t dead but admitted to some hospital in Chennai (India). However, following his chronic health issues related to liver cancer, Cochin Haneefa has died.

He was 58-year-old when died on February 2, 2010 and Cochin Haneefa was his nick name that he derived from the stage. His actual name was Salim Ahmed Ghoush and was considered to be among most popular funnymen in Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil movies. Appearing in the film industry for the first time in 1970, he started his career in the capacity of a villain but later turned into a comedian.

Earlier today, various local television channels in India kept on bringing updates about his serious and somewhat critical condition following which, he was brought to a private Chennai hospital sometime ago where, he finally died today. The actor was also a renowned film director and a screenwriter. His first debut movie was ‘Ashtavakran,’ wherein he played a relevantly smaller role in 1979.

According to the brief information available on Cochin Haneefa, the actor performed in nearly 300 films and most of them were in local languages such as Tamil and Malayalam. However, he also acted in a number of Hindi (The National Language of India) as well. It has also been learned that the last movie he did as a director, was a Malayalam one named ‘Body Guard.’

In most of the movies, Cochin appeared in kind negative roles and mostly accompanied the villains’ party in a typical comic character that had become his trademark lately.
