There was a remarkable bond between Anne Frank and Miep Gies. A Dutch citizen Miep Gies not only saved and hid Anne Frank from the Nazis but also did a great job by preserving the diary that belonged to Anne Frank. At the age 100, Miep Gies passes away.
Born in Frankfurt am Main (Weimar) Germany, Annelies Marie “Anne” Frank wouldn’t have even though that her personal diary would be of so much importance to the world after her death. However, Anne Frank and her diary that revealed her bitter experiences during the World War-II, earned global fame; though after the death of the author.
Miep Gies was among those citizens of Netherlands that let Anne Frank to hide in their premises alongside Frank’s family since the Nazis were frantically searching for the Jews. Finally the Nazis discovered the Frank family hiding in the attic of Miep Gies’ house in 1944 and when the Gestapo left, Miep Gies searched the attic and what she found there was a personal diary, written by Anne Frank. And it was Miep Gies that later, offered the diary for its publication to a press.
Founder of the famous “Simon Wiesenthal Venter” that used to be the dean of the same as well Rabbi Marvin Hier admired her effort and stated that without her help, millions of readers wouldn’t be able to learn the dark side of the Holocaust. Rabbi even described Miep Gies as “beacon of light.” In her diary, Frank had described the times of trouble while hiding in dark dungeons and attics, in minute details while her beloved country under the German occupation.
