Amir Vahedi that passed away on January 8, 2010 was well-known for the cigars being pretty oversized yet matched his personality. Iranian Amir Vahedi was a professional poker player that was considered to be a colorful pro and his death resulted of diabetic complications that involved blood sugar levels.
The news of Amir Vahedi’s death first came through Mark Seif an American poker player that hails from Las Vegas (Nevada) and is an attorney by profession. Seif tweeted on the Twitter blog that he was extremely sad to hear about the death of his fellow poker player through a source very close to Vahedi. He described the news as very devastating and also tweeted that he’s waiting for further details.
Amir Vahedi was declared the ‘Texas Hold’em Player’ of the year in 2001. In the year 2003, Tehran (Iran) born Amir Vahedi was awarded the cash prize money worth $250,000 at the World Series whereby he made the final table at the Main Event. The overall earnings of the player stand at around $2.5 million during his professional career. He also won $1,500 NLHE in 2003 in the shape of WSOP bracelet.
At the Championship of World Poker Tour Bellagio in the year 2008, his final table earned him $25,000 whereas another $237,435 awaited him since he finished in seventh place on the Telivision bubble. One of the most colorful poker individuals, Vahedi also helped Ben Affleck the famous film director and actor to learn a bit of poker, being his only activity lately.
Prior to becoming a poker player, Amir Vahedi used to serve the Iranian Army and was deputed on the borders while in the Iran-Iraq war where he ended up as a refugee.
