A video of Adam Lambert’s performance leads to controversy. The particular video wherein Adam Lambert had kissed a male keyboardist poured in complaints to the ABC Television network for airing the show. The rival channel CBS aired the same but GLAAD accused them of double standards.
Last Sunday November 22, at the American Musical Awards 2009, American rocker 27-year-old Adam Mitchel Lambert performed live on one of his hits ‘For Your Entertainment.’ The American Idol had two reasons to make his performance memorable that night. First it was a slight fumble and then a series of kind sexual acts especially the way he ended his performance; he offered a long lasting kiss to a male keyboard artist.
Approximately 14 million or more viewers that watched got an impression that the rocker courted the attention as a gay, worldwide! A YouTube video that covered his performance became the most watched one and following a countless complaints, the show sponsor i.e. ABC television network, decided not to invite Adam on ‘Good Morning America news’. A subsequent Wednesday chat show was also cancelled.
Grabbing the opportunity, CBS aired Adam’s ‘views’ on their ‘The Early Show’ wherein though he claimed nothing in his performance was intentional, he refused any apologies regarding his acts either. “I don’t see anything wrong in it,” added Adam Lambert. To further strengthen his arguments, he quoted a ‘Madonna – Britney Spears 2003 kiss’ the duo performed at the famous MTV Video Music Awards. “If that was ‘legal’ then what was wrong with my acts?” asked Adam.
To sum up his arguments, Adam stated that “Probably it’s all so because I am a male performer, and I am a gay.” During the show, the same video was also aired but with a crafted blurred vision of his famous kiss. And here started the trouble; not for Adam Lambert but CBS.
The crafted video airing involved ‘The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) that accused the channel of having double standards towards gay community, especially for the one performing openly. However, the CBS spokesman defended the network’s point of view and declared that Lambert’s issue is more controversial as compared to Madonna as it may still lead to legal complications. The network may encounter legal troubles such as some financial penalty in the shape of fines.
